2	Who is Mike? I am: A 25 year old A college grad A record producer A web designer An avid music fan and concert goer A guy with a vision and ambition A guy who is looking for a “day job” A guy who likes to party and have fun A guy who is confined to a wheelchair due to cerebral palsy A guy who is driven to succeed in life and is determined to overcome any obstacles that are thrown his way
3	What is cerebral palsy (CP)? CP is a physical disability stemming from a brain injury that occurs at birth due to a lack of sufficient oxygen going to the cerebellum The physical limitations caused by CP are Fine motor impairment- (small movements) Effects ability to write, type, drive etc. Gross motor impairment- (larger movements) Effects ability to walk, dress, self feed, bath, etc Lack of consistent speech patterns I can speak for myself It just might take I while to fully understand what I say Spontaneous movements of arms, legs, and/or head Periodic episodes of muscle tightness Cognitive functions are not effected I can think, reason, and make decisions for myself I can take care of myself, I just need assistance in doing so!
4	Personal Assistants Personal Assistants (PAs) eliminate (or drastically reduce) the effects of the limitations of physical disabilities PAs are employed by persons with disabilities to provide assistance with personal and/or professional tasks of everyday life Tasks involved are just assisting basic daily activities that everyone does for themselves For example, you do the following for yourself:
5	Why I hire Personal Assistants Everyone has dreams and goals in life I have dreams and goals also I have a perfectly normal body that functions the same as yours or that of any other 25 year old However due to the physical limitations of CP, I need assistance with the same basic things: I only need assistance with what you already do for yourself By providing assistance, we both work towards goals, objectives, and dreams
6	Who qualifies for these positions? Anyone who has the desire to help me reach my goals and dreams Anyone who has their own goals, dreams, and ambition Anyone who is reliable, personable, honest & patient Anyone who is comfortable or willing to learn to assist with the tasks associated with everyday life Anyone with a valid driver’s license and is willing to drive my conversion van (required for most shifts) Anyone who is not afraid to have some fun and attend concerts, parties, nightclubs, and other events with me Anyone who can act in a professional manner and is willing to assist me on job interviews, in corporate settings, meetings, etc. Anyone that does not expect this to be a typical “home health aide” position! Anyone who will not call me their “patient” or “client” Anyone who is able to follow oral and written instructions No prior experience is required for these jobs!
7	Type of shifts / How to apply Shifts: There are hourly shifts and roommate shifts available Length of shifts can range from 2 hours to 3 day periods Shifts are created based on your current/future availability Pay rate is determined by how many tasks that you are willing to assist with How to apply: Log on to www.assistMike.com Read through the information and fill out the application I will review your application and determine your eligibility for an open position I will contact you to set up a formal interview if it is determined that you may qualify (please allow 2-3 weeks)
